Cassie's Fur-ever Friends

On December 1, 2020, Charleston Police Department Patrolman Cassie Marie Johnson was grievously injured in the line of duty while protecting the city she loved. After saving multiple lives through the generous gift of organ donation, Cassie's end of watch was observed on December 3, 2020. She was just 28 years old. Prior to joining the CPD, Cassie was a Humane Officer for the City of Charleston and worked closely with the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (KCHA). Cassie was deeply passionate about providing love, care, and safe harbor for the lost, abandoned, and mistreated animals in our community. Cassie's Fur-ever Friends was developed to honor Cassie's sacrifice and carry on her legacy of compassion by continuing to care for the animals she held so dear.

Our mission is to receive enough donations to purchase 146 forty-four pound bags of Purina Dog Chow (or Puppy Chow!) by the 2026 anniversary of Cassie’s end of watch (12/3/26). Why 146 bags? Cassie’s CPD Unit # was 146, which has been permanently retired in her honor. The total approximated sum to attain this goal is $4,500. Any gifts received in excess of the goal will go directly to KCHA to use at their discretion to continue to provide love, safety, and comfort for the animals in their care.
